This painting is influenced by and a tribute to Grant Ashwell. Go to Instagram @grantashwell. He is undoubtedly the greatest and most successful Kayak ocean fisherman this country has ever seen. As an old bloke he has caught and released more Marlin and untold other LARGE species from a Kayak that shouldn't be humanly possible. A true Legend in ever sense of the word.

In this painting I try to show, using the black brush strokes, how these big fish tow him and his Kayak all over the ocean. The red brush strokes is the fish surrendering to their active fate of eminent death. But then they are revived and released to swim another day. Simplistic but very relative.

I tried the base in an ocean blue, but it lost the impact I was trying to achieve. So the marbled light beige was ultimately the back ground that I used.

This is a striking contemporary abstract, simplistic and minimalist in delivery but with an impact that is undeniable.

The painting can be hung Landscape or Portrait depending on your preference.

In it's portrait orientation it is 122 cm high and 91 cm wide. All the edges are painted. It is varnished in a subtle satin finish to enhance the color and to protect the paint.

On the back is a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity. Also it is wired ready to hang and has felt cushion to protect your walls.

This painting will be shipped in a crate.

Patrick has lived on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia for over 60 years. His work reflects parts of his life with a bold and vibrant colour palette. His introductory works were mainly contemporary in nature, consisting of lively acrylics on a wildly textured plaster bases. The assortment of bases gives Patrick’s work depth, while the bulk and shadow lines bolster the pieces character. As Patrick’s work is evolutionary his latest style remains contemporary abstract. He uses various mediums and acrylics in fluid states to produce a mixture of abstract colours and shapes. Most of Patrick’s inspiration comes from the everyday world around him. He enjoys the challenge of mastering different techniques. Patrick has had many exhibitions, either solo or combined with other artists. He has won acclaim and awards for his abstract imagination. His work is displayed in galleries on the Central Coast and in private collections. .
