Aoife Tolerton born 1973 Dublin, Ireland graduated from The National College of Art & Design (NCAD) with BDes (hons) Visual Communications in 1995. Aoife's has a keen interest in botanicals, growing many of her botanical muses herself. Aoife has exhibited widely and her work forms part of a number of international collections. Light transforms the mundane into the extraordinary - igniting vibrant colours, complex forms and revealing a hidden dimension—an alternate reality where chaos becomes art. Aoife's distinctive and unique approach - painting acrylic on linen canvas followed by the application of an individual screen print - gives the painting a special value, injecting movement and energy, breathing life into the canvas. Inspired by the intense visual effects of light on plants Aoife uncovers the intricate detail and immense colour variations found in botanical forms. These highly graphical pieces amplify vibrancy, movement and structure an interplay of realism and abstraction. Transcending realism there rises an inevitable and growing desire to appreciate the personality and hidden beauty within leaves, petals, and stems. These overlooked aspects hold stories of resilience and adaptation. Through this exploration, Aoife encourages a deeper connection with the natural world—one that questions the conventional definitions of beauty, celebrating imperfection and embracing chaos.
