Astral Path Series: This Series takes us on a guided journey of an astral path represented by a predominant line punctuating the surface of each painting. The eye absorbs an intuitive path over several layers built upon a canvas depicting both an abstract background and foreground. “I love getting lost in a painting, and oftentimes a “graphic hook” draws you in quickly. If I’m working on a vignette, decorating a room, or even setting up a still life... I might want the rush of a lyrical continuous line punctuating the texture that lies beneath. In a way my Astral Path paintings are an absolutely abstract portrait. Drawing you in the way a strong jaw or furrowed brow would. I think that’s why I think of them as a graphic hook / visual pull > portraits definitely can draw me into a vignette that same way.” The continuous line / astral paths are struck in both traditional and one-of-a-kind studio crafted mediums including the same oil sticks used by Picasso, handmade temperas, chalk, tinted graphite, and pigment sticks of Blake’s own creation.

Blake Bachman is a native Angeleno who has spent the past decade dividing his time between Los Angeles and NYC. His work emcompasses abstract work with mostly monochromatic and ephemeral tones punctuated by expressive gestures of layers of pigment and texture. His process is both spontaneous and intuitive often utilizing layers of plaster, pigment, chalk, and acrylic. Blake is inspired by the intersection of modern and old worlds creating elevated pieces that withstand the testament of time. He grew up in an artistic household that gave him early exposure to the process and joy of creating. He is a trained graphic designer and has worked as a creative director in LA and NYC. He now resides in Los Angeles with his husband, Renata and dog, Rock.
