Astrid and the Grevillea Painting

This is a painting of my pet galah Astrid. I absolutely love native birds and galahs are one of my favourites. They are such quirky and funny birds and this is the first of many paintings I have done of Astrid. This image was based on a photo I took of her sitting on my shoulder. The bird at the bottom is painted from the shadow she created plus the double vision I got trying to look at her on my shoulder. I added grevilleas to the painting as they are both mine and Astrid's favourite flower. I used oil pastel, pencil and paint to create lots of colour and interest.
