At the Going Down of the Sun Painting

Rebecca Searle creates work that explores the margins, where the conscious and the unconscious meet. Her work merges imagination, memory and texture to evoke physical sensation. In her paintings she attempts to create a balance between the conflicting chaos and clarity of nature. 
 Her work is built up in layers of generous mark making, often laid down with a palette knife, to capture the energy and expression of natural reality. Some of the surface is often eroded as part of the journey, revealing the rawness and impulsion of the process.
