The inspiration for this painting was a memory of my husband getting upset with the ravens eating cherries off our tree at our old house. We waited so patiently for the cherries to get ripe and as soon as they did the ravens started gobbling them up. At that point, the battle was on! My husband would go out with a broom and climb up the ladder and shout and wave at them to scare them off. They'd fly off for a minute, then come right back and continue snacking. I was very amused by the whole process and secretly rooting for the ravens. This painting won the Community Award at Columbia Basin College's 2012 Juried Student Art Exhibit and was purchased for the permanent collection of the Esvelt Art Gallery in Pasco, Wash.

I am a geeky web developer with a background in photojournalism. I spent most of my life thinking I was not able to draw or paint. But during the summer of 2011, I bought a set of pastels and started playing with them. Encouraged by my results, that Fall I took a painting class at my local community college. Since then, it's been a pursuit that I have way too little time for, but really enjoy. I mostly use my own photographs for inspiration. And it is my love of animals and the ocean that inspires my choice of subject matter.
