ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I like to paint from memories of a place -- in this case a lake in Ontario where I spent most summers, called Lake Mazinaw. The lake is known for 300 foot granite cliffs that rise straight out of the lake and feature indigenous rock paintings along the waterline. This painting speaks to the atmospheric light on a late summer's evening. My approach to landscape painting is to try to capture the feeling and energy of a place -- to enable the viewer to feel immersed in the spirit of the land.
