After graduating from Manchester School of Art in 2005 James Roper first gained international recognition within the Pop Surrealism movement of the mid-2000's. Roper exhibited his artwork globally, including solo shows in New York, London, San Francisco, Barcelona and Milan. Roper initially garnered attention for his vibrant anime and Baroque-inspired paintings, which played a pivotal role in high-profile collaborations with Nike, MTV, Converse, Facebook, Formula 1 and Linkin Park. In response to the increasing mental noise of our hyper-modern culture Roper has now shifted his focus, away from the exaggerated technicoloured imagery of his early career. His new body of work "Relics of the Wild" are intricate digital collages crafted from his own photography of the flora and fauna he encounters whilst exploring the British countryside. The work aims to inspire a deeper connection with nature, urging viewers to visually slow down, quieten the mind and rediscover the beauty in their everyday encounters with the wild world.
