This painting was inspired by a drawing of mine called 'Morning at Black Rock'. Black Rock is a beach town in Melbourne, Australia. I was walking with my aunt one morning, several years ago and the glow of the light through trees that lined the beach that day was much more captivating to me than the view of the water! My goal in all of my paintings is to capture the feeling of that electric moment when light is shimmering against the shapes that it is enveloping. I hope that you can feel this when you look at this painting. Thank you for viewing my work :) Danielle

Born Albury, Australia. Lives and works in New York City and Boulder, Colorado. Artist Statement-"I feel compelled to explore light and dark and the resonance that takes place between them. One cannot exist or 'breathe' without the other, yet at every moment the two seem at odds. Light floods dark and dark fights back. The point at which they are forced to unify is what consumes me. In that place where form becomes insignificant, the warring elements merge, and light and dark seem almost at peace". Danielle Hatherley Born in Albury, Australia, Danielle Hatherley spent her childhood in Sydney, growing to love the citys spectacular harbour and beaches. At 19, after studying fine arts and fashion design, she found her passion in landscape painting, inspired by the works of Impressionists Monet and Van Gogh, and her mentor, Australian artist Ted Blackall. Throughout her twenties, Hatherley attracted loyal patrons as she won art awards and exhibited in group and solo shows. Her vibrant landscapes attracted corporate commissions that included several luxury hotels. At this time Hatherley founded and operated 'The Plein Air Painting School', taking students on weekly outdoor painting sessions. As Hatherley matured as an artist, she became mesmerised by the play between light and dark. Hatherleys recent works are the product of her passionate exploration of light.
