Gennaro Branca (Salerno, 1979) has been an active member in the world of writing and street art in Italy since his childhood. In 2005, he graduated in Multimedia Illustration at the Institute of European Design in Rome, a city where he collaborated with various advertising agencies for famous brands’ campaigns. He also worked in the film industry with different filmmakers, among whom Abel Ferrara on his movie Mary. In 2007 and 2008 his work was presented at the Plantazero Gallery in Barcelona. To further develop his painting studies, he moved to Cosenza, in the South of Italy, to assist artist Cesare Berlingeri in various publishing projects and exhibitions. Branca’s research focuses on genetic modification and cloning, which he translates through a peculiar artistic language, an instinctive painting and the use of multiple signs. In 2011, he participated in the collective exhibition New Routes of Painting at the Museum of Ancient Arsenals in Amalfi and started a collaboration with ELLEBI Gallery in Cosenza. In 2013, he presented his work Sinthia in a solo show at the Arcade Book and Look Library in Catanzaro. In 2014 he was part of the collective exhibition Quiet and A Bit of Anarchists at Rosa Niglio Itri in Stella Cilento (SA). In 2015 and 2016, Branca exhibited at Setup - ArteFiera in Bologna with ELLEBI Gallery and took part in the collective show Cromatici at Cerruti Arte in Genova. Also in 2015, a selection of his works was exhibited at Nicola Pedana Gallery in Caserta (SA), while the following year, he had two major solo shows: Art in the factory at Grafphic Center Srl. in Foggia and De rerum natura at ELLEBI Gallery. He also participated in the project CoRe – Healing Garden organized by Cosenza Rotaract, with his first sculpture permanently installed in the garden of the Annunziata Hospital. In 2017, his works were exhibited in the solo show Parathyra at Marzamemi ancient tunafish Factory in Sicily, and in the collective exhibition LINGUAGGI COALESCENTI - Ithaka Won’t Fool Ya! at BBS-pro Prato, both projects curated by Valeria D’Ambrosio. In 2018 he was part of the collective exhibition Dimensione fragile at the Biblioteca Vallicelliana in Rome. He is currently participating in NutriMenti. 18 Presences in the Contemporary Art, the collective exhibition curated by Giulio De Mitri at Palazzo Pantaleo, Taranto, and in the 6th edition of Contemporary Art at the Marche Art Center in San Benedetto del Tronto. He lives and works in Salerno.
