ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This piece depicts a constant theme in Cotto's work of spirit versus flesh. The flesh is in the form of a blood thirsty wild dog and a horse complete with halo and rider/guide serves as the human spirit. The artist used keys from previous apartments and studios of his in the rays of the halo. This piece is a great representation of Cotto's early NYC work as he learned to let go and paint more with his heart and feelings rather than staying in the lines as his Charleston work would suggest.
