About The Artwork
Acrylic painting on canvas with black reflective glass "Bakhoor", meaning "Incense" in Arabic, is inspired by my upbringing in the Coptic Orthodox Church. The subject in this painting carries a bowl in his hand, meant to represent the censor held by the priest in the traditional church. Smoke acts as a religious symbolism to show that our prayers are physically being lifted to heaven. Birds surrounding the smoke act as intercessors on our behalf, in order for our prayers to be heard. This painting touches on spirituality, prayer, and legacy.
