Watercolor Panel mounted in Ebonized Oak Floater Frame.

I've enjoyed painting the birds that I see where I live. One bird that is pretty elusive and I've only seen a couple of times is the Baltimore Oriole. When I see a bird that is rarely seen it adds to the mystery of the encounter. Because I rarely see it, maybe I exaggerate the birds movements and intelligence in my mind . . sleek, discerning. I have painted a Baltimore Oriole a few times and this painting is different from the others because I decided to add a background which makes it a darker (in value) painting than the others and allows for more harmony since I included similar colors that comprise the bird.

Once upon a time, I acknowledged that the work I was doing to make money and the graduate degree I was working on were not meeting some important needs of mine. So I stopped and without having a clear plan for what to do next, I dusted off and opened a watercolor set that had been given to me as a birthday gift several years previous. Since that time I have been learning, experimenting and making art, mostly with watercolor. I am beginning with a theme of “connecting to life through art.” I hope that my art contributes to connection, presence, feeling. Connecting to life energy has been an important part of my learning about and integrating Compassionate Communication and I’m excited about the possibility of connecting these two passions of mine. My plan is to continue making paintings that cover a broad range of subject matter.
