Like many other artists through time I decided to interpret the work of a classical baroque artist: Jan Van Huysum, an expert in depicting flowers. A risky and obsolete theme.

What his paintings represent to me is this decorative side, a mysterious, explosive-abstract world, whose dynamics are veiled into an unseen but extremely present light.

I created a long series of works based on his artwork, adding visual and technical abstract means to it. Thus I achieved a modern image by using at times aggressive primary colors in line with our current means of seeing derived from the digital background/expertise.

I consider my work to be an immersion into art history. I say this because I draw on my excursions into artistic expression from the ancient world to contemporary provocations. I explore a full range of classical themes including nudes, landscapes, still life and various techniques such as glazing, leaking, dripping. I am most comfortable when I can merge figuratism, abstract metaphysics, surrealism and expressionism. Put simply, I would say my paintings are figuratism achieved through abstract and expressionist means.
