About The Artwork

The Battle of Siddim, also often called the War of Nine Kings, is an event in the book of Genesis. It was the battleground for the cities of the Jordan River plain revolting against Mesopotamian rule. The mixed media construction representing the "Battle of Siddim" portrays a sense of chaos, turmoil, and struggle The colour palette of the painting, with its dominant shades of grey and dark tones, with the hues of blue showing trough evoke a feeling of unease or even danger. The bold and rough brush strokes, suggest a sense of urgency or violence and invite the viewer to reflect on their own understanding of what a battle entails. The twisted, rusted wire create a sense of physical violence and destruction. The painting is a powerful representation of conflict and its consequences, both in the historical context of the Battle of Siddim and in a broader sense as a symbol of the human struggle for power and control.
