excerpt from the commentary from the Bird Series: 'My home also overlooks the Wetlands of Ballona Creek in Playa del Rey. It is a small California State nature preserve that is home to many species, including egrets, blue herons, doves, hummingbirds and hawks. It is not uncommon for them to enter our space through an open door. The extraordinary ecology and colors of the space, and the privilege to closely observe the cycles of seasons and the lives of birds was a true liberation. So I began to explore these interlocking disciplines with my painting - botany, zoology, chemistry, ethnography, and natural history and the relationship of man to his environment. My paintings depict activities of inner experience. The bird series paintings centers around a metalanguage to overcome the limitations of linear space and time and communicate the interdependence of all aspects of the phenomenal natural world. The complex language of birds lies beyond our understanding, but intuitively we derive meaning from their conversations, witnesses to the hidden intrigues in the shadows of their speech.'
