ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My paintings are inspired by the colors, people, and cultural artifacts of Native American cultures, but realized as iconic shamanistic figures that have taught countless cultures worldwide as a quasi-human interface between the known and the unknown. I've been painting imaginary shamanistic figures for forty years. Though their roots were planted firmly in myth and iconography of the desert southwest U.S., they have become less and less culturally specific. Eagle feathers and beads and bone breastplates still appear from time to time, but the personal power of the figure takes precedence over ethnographic considerations.
