ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Where I live in California the sun illuminates the most incredible variety of succulents. Their beauty is irresistible but they sometimes have sharp thorns that can be painful. I observed this aloe vera during a walk by the beach. This painting began with a red undercoat and built up with many subsequent layers of thin glazes. The green is offset by its complementary red accents.

I've never imagined being anything but an artist, although there was a time after graduating college that i had to wait for my ideas to come of age. Although I'm a native of the East Coast, after working in Santa Barbara since 1976 and the California light, colors, and aesthetic has been the strongest influence on my work.
