Beefcake V is inspired by the imagery of vintage beefcake magazines from the mid-20th century, which played a key role in shaping gay male visual culture. I am a Chilean visual artist whose work focuses on the male nude from a gay perspective, challenging conventional representations and exploring the homoerotic aesthetic through a contemporary lens. My artistic practice is a response to growing up in a society that often invisibilizes and marginalizes LGBTQ+ experiences and identities. During my adolescence, the absence of queer imagery and references in the media and culture left me with a profound sense of not belonging, intensified by a dominant narrative that portrayed sexual diversity as negative or abject. Through my works, I explore themes of identity, desire, and resistance, challenging traditional conceptions of masculinity and proposing new inclusive and affirmative narratives. Influenced by camp aesthetics, pop culture, and religious imagery, my art fuses and re-signifies these visual elements to present a vision that has historically been absent in the society I inhabit. My goal is to help fill the void of representation, creating images that not only make homosexual identities visible but also dignify them, countering the invisibility and stigma that have surrounded them.
