This painting was made from a reference photo found in National Geographic magazine. The photo, taken by Rena Effendi, shows a Syrian refugee selling roses on the beach in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. I'm inspired by this man's proud, strong posture and happy gaze despite all the suffering he and his loved ones have endured. His roses stand in stark contrast to the tan beach scene behind him. This painting is available through Foolproof Contemporary Art Gallery in Denver.
