About The Artwork

One of the first pieces of art I ever bought was a National Park poster from Charley Harper. The Coral Reef from 1979. I was so excited to be able to buy something so beautiful. It lived on my wall for years and I never get tired of it. I was amazed that a "commercial" poster could have such cool art on it. I was probably about 12 when I bought it. Looking at this painting tonight I can certainly see Charley's ideas coming through. #charleyharper The medium is watercolor on paper. Nothing holds layers of watercolor paint like great paper! The paper is glued using archival white glue onto a sealed ampersand hardbord panel which I built using locally sourced cedar. The piece is varnished with Golden Polymer varnish with UVLS. Ask me about any of this at Thanks!

MIKE BISKUP is a contemporary watercolor painter of imaginary landscapes and abstracts living and working in Port Townsend, WA. Born in 1970 in Los Angeles, Mike comes from a family historically rich in artists, poets, and dreamers. As early as he can remember, he was voraciously drawing ultra fast cars, funky dudes, and piles of interesting things with his two older brothers. In 1993, he completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at UC Santa Cruz. There he encountered a richly blended stream of artistic freedom, Zen Buddhism and Native American spiritual consciousness which has shaped his life and work ever since. Mike is currently embracing his role as a bringer of visions in the Artist/Shaman tradition elucidated profoundly by Joseph Campbell and also investigating the meaning and trajectory of a recent mystical experience with the profound light of the Cosmic Christ. His paintings can be found in collections worldwide, notably that of Oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette and Facebook Inc.
