Berlin Zionskirche Painting

Part of a series inspired by my time in Berlin and the refugee situation in Germany. The landscapes are void of humans because in my travels to Berlin I did not encounter a single refugee. They remain, many by choice, in the tent camps trying to recreate some semblance of the communities they have been ripped from. I used paint, photography, ink and pencil hash marks through out to represent both the number of refugees taken in by Germany and as a tally of the time the refugees have been untethered from their homelands. The plight of refugees, the humanitarian response of Germany and my own country's lack of response moved me to create these pieces.
