About The Artwork

"Beyond the Surface" is an artwork that delves into the complexities of the human experience, inviting the viewer to explore the layers of meaning that lie beneath the surface. Through the use of mixed media, including paint, oil pastel and greece pencil, the artwork creates a textured and multi-dimensional surface that invites the viewer to engage with it on a deeper level. At first glance, "Beyond the Surface" may appear abstract and chaotic, but upon closer inspection, the layers of colour, texture, and symbolism begin to reveal themselves. The artwork is a reflection of the complexity and richness of the human experience, with each layer representing a different aspect of our lives: our emotions, thoughts, memories, and aspirations.

Alexis Mcfarland (LX) is an Australian-Filipino contemporary abstract artist based in Toronto, Canada. In her work she is inspired by human psychology and the conscious and unconscious combination of thoughts and emotions. This theme is heavily explored in her abstract expressionism work and portrait pieces she creates. Artist Statement: Delving into the human psyche and exploring an individuals experience both positive and negative, light and dark is what fascinates me. People are so different, yet so similar and I like to paint in an intuitive state from the direct experience of the people I meet, my life and the transference of the collective consciousness. Painting is a purging of emotion from what I have seen and learnt of others and the experience in my own life. Psychology and human behaviour are ever interesting and I will continue to go to the depths of human mind and soul.
