Here is a look at all four dyptichs in the group. From upper left: the 1940's, the 1960's, the 1980's, and the 2000's
I think this one looks a lot like Lana Turner's getup in "The Postman Always Rings Twice"

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is a diptych, meaning a single work in two pieces. It is an acrylic painting on two sheets of 100 lb Arches paper, which is an archival, mold-made paper produced in France. They are sold unframed. While the acrylic surface is much more robust than a watercolor or drawing on paper, it is still on paper and would, ideally, be framed before hanging. From a playful series of paintings tracing the history of the bikini from the 1940's to the present. They are designed in a minimalist style that references mid century abstraction, a style that rhymes with the Modernist time period.

BUYING A PAINTING from Brooke Rogers means you are acquiring a work of art with meaningful connections to both the artist's identity as a free individual, and to any number of veins running through the history of art. Brooke is an artist with the knowledge and experience to produce significant paintings that are enlivened by direct experience, and strengthened by timeless qualities. BROOKE ROGERS IS A PAINTER from Ocean City, MD. He went to college in suburban Chicago, and then studied with Grace Hartigan at the Maryland Institute in Baltimore, but he ended up back at the beach where he started. Brooke has exhibited widely up and down the Mid-Atlantic, including solo shows in New York, Washington, and Richmond. His first museum show was at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD, a premier regional contemporary art venue with a national scope. BROOKE'S EARLY EXPERIENCE of nature was framed by material culture. A surfboard, after all, is an abstract sculpture. Wetsuits and surf apparel in the New Wave1980’s were covered with colorful patterns. He virtually grew up in a surf shop. On the other hand, his father was a Baptist preacher. Church gave him a sense of the sacred in everything and everyone around him.
