Description: I have no children, but I have witnessed child birth.. The journey of the child from the womb through the passage and out with a final push and a spurt is the greatest miracle on earth. When I was painting this one, I thought I was reliving the spray on my face from the wave in an ocean.. but the spurt reminded me more of the birth of a childMedium: Glass Painting in Mixed MediaYear Created: 2006

Born on January 24, 1967 in New Delhi. The middle child among five siblings. Spent five childhood years in the U.S.A. where her father was posted. (Has travelled widely subsequently in Europe, the Scandinavian countries and the U.S.A.) Started painting in early childhood before she learnt writing, and experienced an introduction to sculpture while making clay childhood figures!! Was awarded at the Shankar's International Painting Competition at 13. (First book of poems called "Sunshadow" was published when she was 15 - first solo exhibition at the same time) Is a self-taught artist. Painting and sculpture are cathartic for her. Expression in art is a need and not an ambition. She loves colours..though she does have her black and white phases.Rooma Mehra is an artist who has faith in the power of nature, God and positive energy of life. "Expect a miracle. Have faith and hope. Because night is darkest just before dawn.. and you or I do not hold the brush that colors the night and the day. Just expect to wake up to one miracle morning, as an unreasonably happy person. It will happen inevitably when you have reached the end of your tether. When God and peace have begun to appear like bleak dreams that only fools believe in. Dream of that morning, it will come." This artist statement elucidates her beliefs. This belief resonates in Mehra's works, whether it is her paintings, drawings or sculptures. Her style is fluid and colors vibrant echoing her positive attitude. She is not restricted by styles or palette each work reflects her individuality and her perception of the subject. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.
