About The Artwork
This painting portrays the singer Toro y Moi. My paintings depict deconstructed portraits which are rearranged to create cryptic visual illusions. My use of gold leaf is a reference to altarpieces and Byzantine art, which elevates them in an iconic way. The disjointed faces emphasise how the identity of alternative musicians are generally unknown to most people. For the portraits I apply an impasto texture using oil paints and utilise gold leaf in the background which provides a shiny contrasting appearance. My painting is on a MDF board attached to a white painted pine wood frame.
