Abasiama Henry Umoh is a Nigerian contemporary figurative painter based in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. A graduate of the University of Uyo, her practice explores themes of presence, identity, memory, and belonging through portraiture, with a particular focus on reimagining Black femininity within contemporary visual culture. Working primarily in oil, Umoh combines the visual language of classical portraiture with abstracted, psychological spaces to create paintings that examine representation, self-definition, and the relationship between figure and environment. Her work is characterized by contemplative compositions, subtle emotional depth, and a balance between realism and abstraction. Umoh's paintings have been exhibited in group exhibitions, including Subversion of the Dominant Art Paradigm (2026) in Seattle, Washington. Through her practice, she seeks to create images that affirm dignity, presence, and the complexity of contemporary Black identity.
