About The Artwork

“Blue Calm” inspired by Mediterranean Sea and the quality of light unique to its environment. This is captured by building layers of oil paint and lightly sanded them down, using thin glazes of varnish and linseed oil to build up vibrating hues of calming blues and grays. Between The tactility of collage and the vastness of the ephemeral, “Experimental Landscapes” begins to construct the calm. Based on the ephemeral and the vastness of deep blue hues, blue calm is based from memory. This can be any space based on a specific place we have experienced.

Based in NE Minneapolis my artistic practice combines the style and language of painting, printmaking, collage and installation art. I am exploring and experimenting with Landscapes from memory, connecting my identity through provocative collaged surfaces. I am interested in contemplating the beauty and ethereal quality of nature and places I once called home. I use various painting materials and methods to evoke a sense of space. My work is transformative by nature rearranging compositions and fragments through surface abstraction. These Landscapes provoke strong memories and questions of home, belonging, what is familiar and what is foreign? With the idea that nothing stays the same, I work by deconstructing surfaces excavating fragments of information and documenting a specific moment in time. Using fragmented prints, papers and cut canvases, I focus on the material record and unique charter each piece when collaged together brings to these changing Landscapes.
