ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"Blue Orchid on Madison Ave #2" is an acrylic on raw canvas painting. This is a similar technique to Helen Frankenthaler's stained canvas. It allows the paint to sink into the canvas, and gives me effects similar to watercolor. This is the second painting in my series, "Blue Orchid on Madison Ave". I was captivated by the live flowers used in the display windows along Madison Ave. But in a CVS in The Village...I saw the most beautiful blue orchid. It stood out from all the others on display. I had no way to bring it back home with me. I couldn't help but think how gorgeous it would have been on Madison Ave...and how it might not ever be purchased by anyone at this drugstore. Since I returned home from NY, I've thought a lot about it's beauty...and have devoted this series to it. This painting measures 16" X 20" X 1 1/2" Finished with many coats of matte varnish. Signed on the front. And also signed and titled on the back.

Wyanne Thompson is a painter whose work reflects both her creativity and her remarkable personal journey. A BFA graduate of Wesleyan College, she has been a full-time artist for over 30 years, creating colorful, bold pieces that inspire and uplift. In late 2013, Wyanne (pronounced Y-Ann) was diagnosed with Stage IV head and neck cancer, undergoing surgery to remove her tongue and numerous lymph nodes. Despite the challenges, she relearned to speak and has been cancer-free for 10 years. Her survival journey transformed her art. Painting became her way of communicating and healing, capturing magic through color and energy.
