Conceptually, this painting is inspired by Marcel Duchamp's "La Boîte-en-Valise," a miniature museum that offers a retrospective of his work and redefined the role of the artist as both creator and curator. In the painting, his work is set on a beach of unknown location, seemingly "crowned" with the word "MOMA." I hope viewers understand that there is a narrative in Art History that addresses artists who have created their own museums, such as Marcel Duchamp (Boîte-en-valise), Robert Filliou (Galerie Légitime), and Marcel Broodthaers (Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles). The Davis Museum Barcelona, founded in 2009, continues this narrative but with its own character, closely linked to social media and, consequently, to the contemporary digital world. Davis Lisboa (São Paulo, Brazil, 1965) is a visual artist based in Barcelona since 1986. Throughout his career, he has worked across diverse media, including drawing, painting, digital art, and video, exploring the boundaries between applied and fine arts, high and low culture, art and the marketplace, as well as craftsmanship and technology. In addition to his work as an illustrator and painter, Lisboa is the creator of the Davis Museum | The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, an innovative online project that functions both as a work of art in its own right and as a platform for the promotion of international contemporary artists. This mini-museum, conceived as a conceptual artwork, challenges traditional exhibition conventions by presenting pieces that blur the lines between viewer and artwork, encouraging critical reflection on art accessibility and the democratization of culture. Lisboa has participated in numerous exhibitions and art events of international significance, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the global contemporary art scene.
