Art Description

Painting: Oil on Canvas.

The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona

Davis Lisboa, "Boîte-en-valise #5", 2017, oil on canvas, 15,7 x 15,7 x 1.57 in (40 x 40 x 3,5 cm)

What/who inspired the work?
I was inspired by Duchamp's Boîte-en-valise, a portable miniature monograph including sixty-nine reproductions of the artist's own work.

What do you hope its viewers will feel/think?
I hope that viewers know that there is a narrative in Art History that deals with "the artists who have created their own museums". This discourse is constructed through Marcel Duchamp (Boîte-en-valise), Robert Filliou (Galerie Légitime) and Marcel Broodthaers (Musée d'Art Moderne, Départment des Aigles). To follow this line I founded The Davis Museum (www.davismuseum.com), the first and only museum of contemporary art created in a ballot box through Facebook in 2009. This cultural entity recognized by the Government of Catalonia (Spain) has several sections and one of them is "The Paintings Section From Davis Museum ". This wing is divided into portraits and still lifes. The portraits are about Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou and Marcel Broodthaers. Still lifes are about Boîte-en-valise, Galerie légitime and Musée d'Art Moderne, Départment des Aigles.

Why did you choose the medium, frame, color?
I chose the oil because it is a medium that allows a wide variety of tones and is very durable. As the Davis Museum is a cube, I chose the frame of the paintings to be square. And since the Davis Museum's brand color is blue and white, I chose to have the same color in the paintings.

This is the only section of the museums in which the works are for sale. Support The Davis Museum art project by buying now this painting on Saatchi Art:
