About The Artwork

Acrylic ink on acid free Faber-Castell watercolor paper 180gm, 11.7 x 8 in., 29.5 x 20.5cm Based on a pencil sketch of the same. Pencil sketch done on location, inside the clubs, surrounded by jostling crowds and working in dim light. The people were not really posing, just being themselves, an amazing sketching exercise. The acrylic ink version I did in studio. The many sketches, and a few pieces done in ink, form a series all done between 1999 and 2000 in various nightclubs in Singapore. I did greatly enjoy this project back then. Good music, good people who responded positively to what I was doing. It’s not everywhere one gets such nice response. Close up picture shows the brush work. The photo of me sketching in the clubs is the only one from then that remains with me today! Please note the print version is cropped such that the first word 'Boogie' doesn't show.

I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
