ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I plucked these brilliant red hibiscus flowers from my garden hedge and set them in a "maohi" vase from Huahine Pearls&Pottery, on a "local style" pareo cloth in blues and turquoises. All these rich colours were sumptuous to paint! I had to work very quickly because hibiscus flowers only last one day, so I got as much done on the flowers as I could right away, and worked on the rest with a little more leisure. I used a photo reference to fine tune them afterwards. There are about a million shades of red in those blooms! I have a tropical wood frame for it, sold separately. It is hand carved by Marquesian sculptor Jean Huukena, from Nuku Hiva.
