About The Artwork

My portrait of Theresa May made using Brexit means Brexit means Brexit means Brexit means Brexit means Brexit means Brexit means Brexit means Brexit …. Years ago I was invited to exhibit in Brussels. This was very early days for me and I was very inexperienced with many things. I used a lot of my money to get a shipping container built, spent lots of money to pay for travel and a hotel when there…and didn’t sell a single piece! So I came home. Shortly after the shipping container arrived back with all my pieces, and it was damaged. In fact the only part that wasn’t damage was the lid. I thought this was a perfect metaphor for Brexit. I went over to Brussels with the wind in my sails, didn’t get a single deal, and returned poorer than I was before. So I used that lid to create this portrait of Theresa May with her slogan she repeated over and over again until it lost all meaning Brexit means Brexit Brexit means Brexit Brexit means Brexit To this day it still reminds me of that moment in the shining All work and no play makes Jack and dull boy Doesn’t it you?

Conor Collins is a Manchester based artist who uses unconventional materials and techniques in his art in order to express meaning and messages in his work. Conor’s work has appeared in publications such as TIME Magazine and been shortlisted for the Celeste Art Prize and winning the START Art Prize which saw him exhibiting at BOZAR (Brussels). Collectors of Conor’s work include Stephen Fry, Ian McKellen and Giorgio Armani. Conor has in the past used materials such as HIV Positive Blood, Diamond Dust, Written Words and more in order to convey a strong social or political message. His work challenges the ideas of aesthetic beauty and political rhetoric. As such his work has exhibited both in Galleries and The Speakers House of the House of Commons (UK). Conor continues to challenge both himself and the boundaries of what art should/should not do. He hopes in time to create a platform where the voices of creatives are as influential for social change as the politicians making changes into law.
