About The Artwork

This painting is part of a series entitled If a butterfly dies in the forest..., based on the idea of the butterfly effect and chaos theory, where everything is interconnected. If a butterfly flapping its wings in a forest can cause a hurricane, what must happen when the butterfly dies? The loss of the beauty of butterflies is symbolic of the loss of species due to habitat loss and pollution. The painting is a depiction of an endangered Australian butterfly, the Bright-eyed Brown. I am inspired by the fragile beauty of butterflies and hope that my paintings and drawings will help to raise awareness of the need to protect them.
