ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Although painted en plein air, this painting was also realised after drawing and studying the scene previously, thus subtracting and distilling the elements that create this delicately balanced picture. Painted in North Somerset in 2014, this is the sister painting to 'Brockley Wood' painted during the same sitting, and also featuring the decaying beech tree stump. This painting is float mounted against a white background in a light oak box frame.

I was born in Brixton in 1981, and grew up in Donegal, later returning to the UK to study Art, Illustration, and Printmaking at the Ruskin School Of Art Cambridge. Drawing is at the core of my practice and forms the fundamental reference point upon which my ideas and practice is based. I draw either from memory or imagination, but mostly directly from life. Through careful study of a subject or topic I explore common themes which run through my work; identity, individuality, loneliness and love. My studio is currently based in Berlin.
