Juan Maria Bollé studied at the Higher St. Lukas Institute for Visual Arts in Brussels. Over the past 30 years, he has exhibited in galleries at home and abroad and has mainly worked with oil paint on canvas. Juan Bollé has mainly worked with oil paint on canvas. Over the past 5 years, he has been painting with mixed media techniques, combining photography and painting. A collage is made based on a selection of photos. The images used are taken from the past and a contemporary context.. Juan Bollé combines multiple images in one canvas. The construction of different image fragments creates rhythmic compositions and creates various areas of tension. They are ‘cinematic’ paintings, characterised by contrasts between figuration and abstraction. Colour and black and white elements alternate. Bollé is not so much looking for what makes a painting contemporary, but mainly for what makes a painting timeless. His paintings are very direct and immediately recognizable, but not unambiguously interpretable. They evoke different associations, are suggestive and characterized by multiple layers of meaning. Bollé says about this: ‘I seek dialogue with tradition in order to arrive at an authentic, contemporary visual language’. His works of art are included in various public and private collections.
