At only seven years old, Gero Eaton, a young boy adopted from Bulgaria to an American family knew that he wanted to become an artist and a great one at that when he first witnessed the genius strokes of the old masters at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Growing up in Yonkers and learning the culture and language was at first difficult. Through art, Gero Eaton was able to express the feelings and emotions he needed to survive through his childhood. By the time he was a junior and senior year of high school and well acquainted to the American culture, Gero Eaton won numerous scholarships and art awards that enabled him to continue to pursue his passion for the arts, and become the first to go to college in his family. During his college years at The University at Buffalo as a BFA major concentrating in painting, Gero expressed major emotional connection towards the old masters and their techniques of painting and drawing and how they created the essence of timeless sense of beauty. Due to the lack of proper education at the University that he craved for, Gero started taking classes at Jacob Collins Water street Atelier and art students league to learn fundamentals to express his visions. With the help of a few teachers like Geoffrey Barbey, James Childs, and Graydon Parrish, Gero has continued to develop in creating beautiful timeless paintings using the 19th century ideals. Mr. Eaton believes that in order to expand, one needs to learn the fundamentals and rules in creating art, and only then can one understand how to break those rules to create powerful works of art. Once Mr. Eaton felt comfortable enough to break the rules, he envisions paintings that resemble the subconscious through emotion using powerful colors, broad shapes and forms and strong lines that create wonderful playful characters to entice the heart. Mr. Eaton uses every day characters such as the emojis as a way to communicate his thoughts. To him emijis is a great way to communicate worldwide because it is a language that is recognizable by everyone and a great way to interact especially if you do not speak the same language. Gero Eaton currently resides in Queens where his studio is located and continuous to paint paintings that he hopes will inspire and make people happy.
