About The Artwork

“cathartic cleansing, a power house of positive energy that has culled itself out of vicissitudes and trying times.’’The canvases, channel energy that resemble a cosmic dance, one where there is an interplay of dynamic and static divine energy flow, containing the eternal life forces. Both abstract and figurative works form his cosmic oeuvre. “The backdrop of the canvas is black, like the endless night and it is against the midnight black that streaks of red, brown and silver color, run down the canvas – tracing their own path in a spontaneous cascade that breaks the monotone of the black,” explains the artist. Full of metaphysical menageries, his canvases exhibit this profusion of dripping colors and a flight of butterflies. Why butterflies? “They symbolize hope, change and resurrection in the Christian theology,’’ he replies. His numerous line drawings of scissors and lock and key indicate a myriad hues of the worldly and the otherworldly symbolism closely related to everyday life. His hanging installations of empty frames and mobile wheelchair speak of the loss of his wife and his personal pain and sufferings, since the entire exhibition is dedicated to her late wife and the trials and tribulations of the artist.

Biswajit Panda, is a mid-career artist whose celestial canvases tap into the energy of the universe presenting a cosmic dance through his unique and spontaneous combination of colours. Born in 1973 in small-town Balasore Odisha, he currently resides and works in Delhi. Panda Graduated in Performing Art (Sitar) From Prachin Kala Kendra Chandigarh. After which he pursued Higher Studies under the Guidance of Pt. Biswajit Roy Chaudhary, at Sri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi. The backdrop of the circular canvas is black, like the endless night and it is against this midnight black that streaks of red, gold, brown and silver colour, run down the canvas…tracing their own path in a spontaneous cascade that breaks the monotone of the black. Amidst this profusion of dripping colours, a flight of butterflies dots the canvas. The butterfly is a symbol of hope, resurrection and change according to Christian theology. In Hinduism, the butterfly is a symbol of rebirth. Just like the caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly, death doesn’t end our existence, but frees us to pursue even greater development. Building upon these pre-existing symbolisms, Biswajit has added his own secrets that are inscribed on their wings, mathematical calculations and personal stories that reveal themselves upon closer inspection. His works are a cathartic cleansing, a powerhouse of positive energy that has culled itself out of vicissitude and trying times. The circular earth-shaped canvases, channel energy that resemble a cosmic dance, one where there is an interplay of dynamic and static divine energy flow, containing the five principles of eternal life-forces. The memory of objects, is superior to other memories, since it is a visual encounter with the manifestation of recollection, remembrance and commemoration. Where the past and the future unite in a seamless experience of the present.
