CROSSING THE RUBICON Triptych 2014 acrylic and oil on canvas 310 (w) x 100 (h) x 2 cm I share the opinion of the famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944), that paintings contain not only a creative message as single piece. You can look at them also in a major conceptional context. This triology (or triptych) CROSSING THE RUBICON combines three of my "smaller" medium-sized works from aesthetic standpoints as well as with regard to contents. About CROSSING THE RUBICON: On 10 January 49 BC, leading one legion (the Legio XIII Gemina), General Gaius Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon river, the boundary in Northern Italy between the Cisalpine Gaul province to the north and Italy proper to the south, a legally proscribed action forbidden by the Roman Republic Senate to any army-leading general. With this military action began the long civil war against Pompey and the Optimates. Caesar said when he led his army across the Rubicon: Alea iacta est ("The die is cast"). Methaporically it is the point of no return. No excuses. You can go on and cross or you have to return. Everyone will come to his own Rubicon, sooner or later. The triptych CROSSING THE RUBICON combines following works and should "read" from left to right: "BORDERLANDS" acrylic and oil on canvas, 2014, 100 (w) x 100 (h) x 2 cm "NIGHTFALL OVER THE COASTLINE" acrylic and oil on canvas, 2014, 100 (w) x 100 (h) x 2 cm "MY NIGHTS BURY THE TENDERNESS" acrylic and oil on canvas, 2014, 100 (w) x 100 (h) x 2 cm * * * * In other and very true and famous words: "Beyond a certain point there's no return. This point has to be reached." Franz Kafka (1883-1924) * * * * All of these paintings also for sale as single pieces here at Saatchi. This triology offers a price advantage in comparision to the summarized single selling prices. For further information about the specific topic of each artwork please visit the pages of the single paintings at Saatchi. This triptych contains three single paintings, each in acrylic and oil on canvas and with dimensions of 100 (w) x 100 (h) cm. I prefer a hanging distance each of 5 cm between the single paintings. All paintings need a single hanging (no backside connections between the paintings). Complete dimensions of this artwork, including the hanging space between the single paintings: 310 (w) x 100 (h) x 2cm. * * * * This triptch is a LARGE-SIZED TRIOLOGY. For a large-scale, aesthetic and colourful impression on your wall AND as my authentic and personal artwork with an artistic subsurface message. I use exclusively oil and acrylic colours, canvas and wooden frames in a professional museum quality. The three paintings wear my signature on the front and are signed, entitled and dated on the backside. Deliberately the sides (about 2 cm wide) are not part of the painting and painted in black with few paint splatters (as typical for professional original paintings). The three paintings are ready to hang (on the backsides: high-quality iron plates with metal inserts and nylon rope for gallery use), unframed and don’t need a frame or any additional surface treatment. The pieces will be safely shipped in a custom wooden crate and accompanied by certificates of authenticity and a cover letter. Please note: In context pictures are not necessarily to scale and are for illustrative purposes only. If you have any questions about this painting or any other piece, feel free to contact me and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks so much for taking an interest in my work. Warm wishes, Christian

CHRISTIAN BAHR has been a passionate, profound contemporary German painter and experienced draftsman for over 35 years. His large abstract works can currently be found in private collections and public spaces in the US, Mexico, Canada, UK, China, Thailand, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Malta, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. His atmospheric large paintings are poetry and artistic struggle at the same time. They capture both harmony and conflict, overall reflecting a strong aesthetic. He has participated in many national and international exhibitions. What he believes in: * “Not everything is art. But art is everything and everything breathes art in one way or another. Art is the true beauty of mankind.” * “I work in my studio nearby the big German coastal city of Hamburg, on the North sea. I’m a seeker as a painter, in search of answers. The single human takes center stage. I work constantly, with great passion and discipline on my further artistic way. I have a clear, strong painting philosophy. And I deal with philosophical, mythological as well as with historical subjects in my works.” * “I go my own way in my paintings. I find the source for my inspiration in me. Spontaneous action is the key, my preferred method. I work intuitively and in most cases without previous sketches, because I do not need a creative distance, I only reduce the view of our surroundings. Added value and clarity through abstraction. It must be rough, original, melancholic, dark, and yet at the same time bright, poetic, clear and full of hope. No maybe, no lukewarm. Every moment counts. That's exactly how I paint."
