Born in Korea in 1960, Korean-Canadian abstract painter. I am so blessed by God, in veiw of the fact that I could have started painting at the age of 40. In earlier life of 20s, I had worked for news paper agency for about 8 years. Since then, I had been weaving through the occupations like a copy writer, assistant director in theater company. Even when I was nearing 40 yrs, I did not realize that I am destined to be a painter. Of course, I am not a genius like Gauguin, I knew, but I could not resist my fateful gravity towards being an artist. "It never be too late", God seems to whisper to me. Of course, I feared skepticism of my artistic dream, intellectual vanity. However I pondered over the reason why the notion of a painter had come to my mind even belatedly. That is new vision left behind to me, grace by God, I believed. I entered into Alberta college of art, Canada, in 1998, having majored in painting, then finished it in 2003. I have been working on abstract painting for 15 years, particularly centering on color field and Minimalism recently. I have a strong aspiration of resurrecting Minimalism again since 1960s. It might be reckless challenge, but also I feel that this too is fate for me to pursue Minimalism now. On the strength the this style in my works, I offer dialogue with the spiritual calmness and meditation. Ultimately the fundamental and purest manifestation of my works idioms point to evoking the art of contemplation and the objects of inward-directed quietness in our troubling time.
