About The Artwork

This is from my, Can we talk? series. My take on humanities interactions. I also like to write stories about the 'characters' in my paintings - below is the story for this painting: One late night, God sat in a motel room, tv station off the air and static turned low. This is a test. God worried a thread on the armrest and wondered about feeling this brittle loneliness. Thoughts on their own produce nothing, but these were God's thoughts, and as God sat there a branch broke through the brown shag carpet. God was unaware of the branch, so mesmerized by the tv static and deep in thought. The branch continued to grow and threw off colors and light, and then from the ceiling a hole opened and houses and telephone poles dropped into a giant hopper-God's hopper of a passing thought. And from this hopper a spigot turned on and out came humanity, which tumbled through the light and dropped into the ocean. The shiny grumble finally caught God's attention who at last looked up- now aware. Giving the armrest thread a final tug, God scratched an itchy knee, and whistled softly to himself.

I usually have some made-up story in my head that runs along with me as I paint. But this story will twist and turn and morph, so that when I'm done with the painting all that I'll have left are some blown apart bits. Narrative icons that are strewn within a curious abstract landscape. Overall, my paintings are playful and full of joy, with just a hint of melancholy - they are my reaction to the world around me. . . BIO I have shown my artwork in group and solo shows in New York City and nationwide, and internationally in Brussels, Australia, Berlin, China, Vienna and Russia. My art has been in past exhibits at The Drawing Center Museum in New York, Monmouth Museum in New Jersey, MarinMOCA in California and Attleboro Museum in Massachusetts. I've been awarded residency fellowships at the Millay Colony, MASS MoCA and Vermont Studio Center. My art and short stories been featured in multiple journals including the New England Review, Alexandria Quarterly and the Library as Incubator Project. My work is included in numerous private and corporate collections, including Truninger AG in Zurich, Switzerland and the Hammond Museum, North Salem, NY. I live and paint in the far northern reaches Manhattan, New York.
