"Capillary" is a bisected image which connotes the boundary between bodily tissues and blood which facilitate the exchange of nutrients and wastes changing the blood colour from bright red to blue. This acrylic composition is part of the “Colour Parallax” series which uses vividly coloured hard edge quadrilateral shapes on neutral ground to explore asymmetrical composition and relational colour perception. The painting is acrylic on clear gessoed 10 duck canvas finished with a UV resistant Polymer Varnish. Its' signed on the side and back, unframed, stretched, wired, and ready to hang. For the past 18 years I’ve been creating non-objective abstract artworks to explore transcendentalism. My images have a clean minimal aesthetic which depict hard edged geometric configurations imbued with vivid colours. The inherent objectless architectonic harmony of my pictures was devised as a solution to the burdens of modernity (being restlessness and relentless distraction.) These works aim to both puzzle and engage the eye of the viewer while minimizing distraction. My hope is that the observer becomes entranced, leaving one’s heart agape, consequently his/her attention can gracefully settle into experiencing the ineffable witness state. As the serene equanimity of observance subsides, the beholder emerges with a sensation of renewal. Often the witness also retains a lingering notion and/or familiar feelings from which a narrative may be gleaned. This whole process may happen in an instant, or may be prolonged, but it is generally of a pleasing nature.
