Maureen O'Neill is an Irish artist living in the west of Ireland, her work comprises of a selection of mainly textured work and according to O'Neill herself, " This work is a reflection of my natural surroundings as well as the built environment at home and particularly abroad that interests me", it has a direct relationship to what intrigues me the most, the simplicity of any building". Her most recent work deals primarily with ideas of privacy, trespass, absent presence, and the seduction of space. Her layered works are built up slowly and her present work is exploring surface and texture through different mediums. O' Neill's attraction to the built environment abroad is very evident in an exciting fusion of the contemporary and the traditional. Her most recent exhibitions include Newport Beach, California, Greenway Gallery Westport, The Greenway Artists Gallery Newport, Clew Bay Gallery (Westport),the Linenhall and the 2010,2011 & 2012 Westport Arts Festival. She has also exhibited in the UK, the USA, Galway, the Linenhall Castlebar, and various group and solo shows around the country.
