About The Artwork

If you don't build castles in the air you won't build anything on the ground. Victor Hugo Not that long ago I heard somebody say: If you do not dream, you do not expect too much, hence you will not be so disappointed when you do not realize that dream. This does not resonate with me at all. For me it is the opposite: If you can see it in your head, you have taken a first step to realizing it. And even if it turns out different in the end, it might be even better like that. Or the dream has changed along the way. One of my castles in the air was an art exhibition. In 2013 I wrote about it in a notebook. I thought about it in every little detail and imagined how my artwork is shown in a gallery in Chelsea, New York. I thought about how my family and I are at the vernissage, talking to people, smiling. This really was far far away from reality and nevertheless, I kept imagining it and writing it down in detail. When I read that notebook entry 6 years later I was (not) surprised. Everything turned out exactly as I had described it. 6 years later the dream about that artshow had come to life. Every tiny little detail I had visualized 6 years ago now was reality. My artwork „Castles in the Air“, with its vibrant colors and clear as well as blurred shapes and lines was inspired by that dream coming true. Like my other paintings it is a square format and consists of various colorful, contrastful layers of acrylic paint, ink and charcoal. On your wall, it reminds you that, if you can imagine it you can do it!

Diana Linsse is a German painter who has always been fascinated by images. Linsse is primarily an abstract painter, though like Picasso she believes that “everything you can imagine is real.” She paints by layering modeling paste, acrylic paint, ink, pastels, and charcoal on the canvas. She extracts objects and forms from their usual context and rearranges them in new settings. By doing this, Linsse hopes to achieve unexpected new harmonies and relationships of form and color. The products of this method are beautiful improvised landscapes like “Flow” and her „Morocco New York“ Series, among others. Linsse has always been naturally drawn to painting. She began to pursue it as a teenager, but experienced great disappointment when she won fourth place in an important art competition. While the three winners went on to prestigious art universities, she decided to focus on another field of study. But although she wished to move on from painting, painting did not wish to move on from her. Linsse did not feel content until she returned to painting full time as an adult.
