Artist Statement ‘Capturing a balance is everything’ I construct, then deconstruct, until I feel a balance has been reached. Although I mainly work through emotion, there is an element of structure and texture to my work, that comes from an interest in old street walls and buildings. I work on the floor, this way I can get around all four sides of the board, so I’m not committed to ‘this way up’ in the initial stages. That will come to light once the layers start to Build. It’s all a process of making good or bad decisions, with an outcome that evokes a reaction, or an emotion from people. I am enamoured by Antoni Tàpies, and his use of everyday objects in his work. The most relevant part of my work, to me, is incorporating materials you wouldn’t use for the purpose of art necessarily. This cements in me that art is everywhere, everything and everyones.
