About The Artwork

Champagne Toast is from my Cocktail Collection. Inspiration eluded me all summer and then I came upon Janet’s Instagram post. It was a carousel of images of her signature cocktail that she enjoyed throughout the summer. The caption read “and so the summer of Negronis comes to an end” I immediately thought to myself “Negroni Summer” now that is a great title for a painting. My imagination ran wild! Cocktails are not just drinks that may or may not contain alcohol. I have many friends that enjoy mocktails only. For me, cocktails are a celebration. Cocktails come to the party all dressed up. They can be fancied up with fruits and little umbrellas. They can be sexy. Think Mad Men, or Sex and the City. The paintings in the Cocktail Collection are not realistic renderings, but rather expressionistic abstracts. With colour and a variety of mediums, I wanted to capture the feelings of fun, happiness, freedom, and excitement, that “on Vacation” feeling I get when enjoying a cocktail. I’ve captured those feelings perfectly and I’m so excited to share this collection with you. The painting is an original mixed media abstract on canvas—many layers of acrylic paint for depth and interest, gesso, house paint and pencil. The Painting is varnished and signed on the back, so that it can hang in any direction.

"These new mixed media abstract paintings are optimistic. They are a journey into my imagination. As an introvert, my inner world is where I’m always most at home. With paint on canvas or paper, I escape into a place of beauty, joy, and magic. Each painting consists of layer upon layer of acrylic paint, sometimes with the addition of other media such as graphite, wax crayon, china marker, house paint, collage papers. These works are intuitive in nature: as I work I combine spontaneity with an intention to create a pleasing harmonious balance.” Toronto artist Rita Vindedzis has exhibited in a long list of solo, group shows and art fairs including Artist Project Toronto, Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, One of a Kind Show, Toronto Art Expo, and Art Expo New York. Rita's work hangs in numerous private and corporate collections in Canada and the U.S. and her paintings have appeared in Canadian House and Home, Style at Home, and Chatelaine magazine and on numerous television programs.
