The work deals with the principle that Space/Time and the human form are intimately linked in the dance of life. Both are dynamic and fluid and he attempts to represent them in this way by layering multiple images and folding Space/Time into a single image.

South Africa
David Theron was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1981. Early on in life he developed an interest in art in all its forms, from comic books and sculpture to film-making and painting. This fascination prompted him to attend the National Schools of the Arts, where he matriculated in 1999. Shortly after leaving high school, Theron went to Europe for 3 years, where he worked as everything from a construction labourer to a bar-tender. On returning to South Africa, he worked as a PVC welder and chemical laboratory installer. Feeling unfulfilled, he started working as a professional illustrator in the advertising industry in 2005. He qualified with a BA in creative brand communications from Vega Brand School in 2008. Following this, he worked for a Dubai-based design agency. It was during this time that he developed an interest in animation. He started at Aces-Up Animation Studio in 2010 and worked up to the position of Creative Director. In 2011, he was invited to join a select group of international students attending a summer master class at the prestigious animation school, Gobelins l’école de l’image in Paris. Theron has subsequently decided to pursue a career in the fine arts, working primarily in oils. His work deals with the principle that Space/Time and the human form are intimately linked in the dance of life. Both are dynamic and fluid and he attempts to represent them in this way by layering multiple images and folding Space/Time into a single image.
