ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The philosophy of John Locke inspired this painting which is part of a series which I named Memory on a Blank Slate. John Locke coined the phrase Tabula Rasa which means Blank Slate.Tabula rasa is the idea of individuals being born empty of any built-in mental content, so that all knowledge comes from later erceptions or sensory. I taught Philosophy and Art in a bilingual high school in Vienna. Locke's thoughts made sense to me.

Stefan Fiedorowicz is a Canadian lyrical abstract artist that incorporates values of astounding colour with harmonious balance combining hues of complimentary juxtaposition. Using varying knife strokes and brush, he creates a highly textured surface where colour and form gives way to unsuspected depths. His work allows the imagination to wander into an undefined, lyrical abstract world. His style continues to be distinguished by his bold textured knife work as he sets a foundation for his viewers to channel their own interpretation to find their own voice within. He cannot pinpoint exactly where his inspiration of a form originates, but he focuses more on the essence of a form which is fundamentally what it is.. Using the richest assemblage of colours, he composes a union of textures with fragmented images which serve to conjure generous foregrounds with textured colour that support the background. Fiedorowicz invites the viewer to see not only depth, but also universals, as his compositions become internalized by the viewer and his abstractions into elemental forms. His works are in private and public collections in Mexico,Europe,Canada,USA and Australia. Many believe that beauty intrinsically catches one’s eye.I am not one of them. I rather believe that being able to recognize true beauty and feel that the simplest things can be transformed into something beautiful and extraordinary. A painting for example, can reveal its true beauty at a second glance. I am a hopeless romantic, however one that is well-grounded in reality. Nevertheless, I dream about opening your eyes to the world around you, sharing the unique experience of feeling something special. Let me take you away– perhaps even lure you onto a special journey, one that is individual and diverse and which may even have to power to make you see some part of yourself. SF Lyrical Abstraction in painting is an opening to personal expression. The term was originally coined by Larry Aldrich [1]; other sources sustain that it was Jean José Marchand and Georges Mathieu who first used the term Abstraction Lyrique in 1947 in Paris. The name "Tachisme" is sometimes used to describe this movement.
