Companion Painting

Companion came about as a response to losing my close friend to cancer. A young man with family and at the beginning of his adulthood. This path is one he would take while walking his dogs. The absence of human presence is deliberate, as much to symbolise my late friend as it is to the depleting of the fishing industry. The buildings to the left of the composition are part of a Fish Processing business that has seen the industry change immeasurably over recent generations. I used a combination of charcoal and acrylic to create the surfaces and textures of the worn wet concrete and mud that you find on the path. The canvas is painted around the edges and matt varnished, to fix the surface. Brackets are installed on the rear to allow for flush hanging to the wall.
